Profitable and environmentally responsible use of crop nutrients

The Fertiliser Advisers Certification and Training Scheme (FACTS) was established in 1993 following discussions between the industry and BASIS (Registration) Ltd to provide a recognised standard of competence for UK advisers on crop nutrition and fertilizer use. The independent, non-statutory, scheme is recognised by Defra and the Environment Agency as a successful means of communicating information to ensure members can keep up to date on technical, environmental and regulatory issues affecting nutrient use.

Some 2000 active advisers throughout the UK are members of FACTS.

Joining the FACTS annual scheme

Entry to FACTS is by written and oral examination, usually following a formal four-day training course. There is a small fee for membership of the annual scheme, currently £23 + VAT (payment by BACS or Direct Debit) or £26 + VAT (payment by cheque) for those receiving newsletters etc by email (supplement of £10 for hard copies by post), that enables the scheme to be self-funding.

Benefits of membership
  • Certificate of basic competence in giving advice on nutrient use
  • Email and phone technical help-lines
  • Quarterly newsletter covering technical issues related to nutrient use
  • Technical workshops and seminars at discounted costs
  • Access to the BASIS Professional Register
